A court agreement will delay the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe's proposed off-reservation casino in the Catskills.
The tribe and the Interior Department agreed to seek a ruling on the adequacy of the environmental assessment for the $500 casino. The Natural Resources Defense Council filed the suit earlier this year.
The tribe is confident the assessment will be upheld in court, Chief Lorraine White said. The state suppors the casino.
The 29-acre Catskills site is not yet in trust. Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne has expressed concerns about off-reservation casinos.
