Seminole Tribe to begin compact negotiations

The Seminole Tribe of Florida will begin negotiations for a Class III gaming compact with Gov. Charlie Crist (R).

The tribe has been seeking a compact for years. Crist, who came into office in January, is the first state governor to openly state his willingness to negotiate.

The tribe is willing to share revenues, general counsel Jim Shore has said. The tribe operates several highly successful gaming facilities.

In 2004, voters legalized slot machines in certain counties. That opened the door for Class III gaming.
