Tule River Tribe shares more than expected

The Tule River Tribe of California shared more gaming revenues with the county than expected, providing a windfall for Tulare County.

The Tulare County Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee awarded $535,000 in grants this year. That was about $150,000 more than last year.

Since there were fewer applicants this time, grant recipients got more money than they expected. The city of Porterville received $200,000, or $40,000 more than requested, and the county fire department received $270,000 after asking for $180,000.

The Tule River Tribe operates the Eagle Mountain Casino.
