The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation of Kansas says it will challenge a bill that would expand gaming in the state.
The tribe operates the largest casino in Kansas. Chairwoman Tracy Stanhoff said there isn't enough of a market to support four existing tribal casinos and any new gaming facilities.
The Kansas Legislature approved a bill to authorize four state-owned casinos and to add slot machines at three racetracks. But it requires voters to agree to gaming in a referendum by the end of the year..
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (D) said she will sign the bill into law.
