Communities want Mashpee Wampanoag casino

At least two communities in Massachusetts want to host the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe if casino gaming is legalized in the state.

The tribe won federal recognition last month. Tribal leaders are actively looking for sites to create an initial reservation and open a casino.

Officials in New Bedford and Middleborough want the tribe to consider their communities. A tribal spokesperson said the tribe is open to discussions.

Some forms of gaming are legal in Massachusetts but Class III gaming is not.
