Cayuga tribes won't get any Catskills casinos

Two Cayuga tribes who lost their land claim won't be getting any casinos in the Catskills, a tribal spokesperson said.

The Cayuga Nation of New York and the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma were offered separate casinos by former governor George Pataki (R). The deal would have ended their 64,000-acre land claim.

But the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals ended the land claim first. The court said the tribes waited too long to file suit.

Both tribes, however, have been acquiring land on their ancestral reservation. They are waiting on the Bureau of Indian Affairs to approve or reject their land-into-trust applications.
