Massachusetts tribe to meet with state on gaming

The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts will meet with state officials to discuss potential plans for a casino.

The tribe is currently the only federally recognized tribe in the state. The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's federal status is due to be finalized next month.

Class III gaming isn't legal in the state but Gov. Deval Patrick (D) has called for a task force to consider the possibility. If that happens, the Aquinnah Wampanoags hope to acquire land for a casino project somewhere in southwestern Massachusetts.

The tribe's reservation is located on the island of Martha's Vineyard but the tribe says it won't develop there or on Cape Cod.
