Oklahoma tribes took in $1.5 billion in gaming revenues in 2005, according to the Casino City Press Indian Gaming Industry Report.
The state ranked fourth in the nation in terms of casino revenues. Earnings grew nearly 40 percent between 2004 and 2005, accroding to the report.
"Oklahoma's ascension within the ranks of Indian gaming states is attributable to the continuing evolution of gaming in that state," the report said, The Tulsa World reported. "Tribes not only opened new gaming facilities; they also increased the quality and types of offerings at existing facilities."
In 2004, state voters legalized Class III gaming and a tribal-state compact. That has led to a growth in the number of facilities and revenues.
Overall, 28 tribes operate 90 facilities in the state. The Chickasaw Nation owns the most of any single tribe.
