One of Wisconsin's tribes wanted to develop the Kaukauna dog track into a gaming operation but the community's citizens solidly turned them down. Then there was former Governor Thompson rejecting a new establishment. The hitch was the tribe involved offered to completely fund Miller Park as part of the compact.

I understand the peoples' objections, especially where morality is involved. Problem is, in a democracy, we can't impose our own ideas of right and wrong on others.

As a taxpayer, I believe the concept that you can feed a man today and again tomorrow or teach him how to fish and feed himself applies here.

Wouldn't you rather have Native American tribes supporting themselves, as opposed to getting a handout? Not to mention a shot of self-respect and confidence in the bargain?"
