Union pleased with vote at Mashantucket casino

The United Auto Workers says a successful drive at the casino owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut will lead to unions at other tribal casinos. The UAW won 60 percent of the vote among 2,800 dealers at the Foxwoods Resort Casino. The election was the first ever at a tribal casino under the jurisdiction of the National Labor Relations Board. "I do think this will embolden workers at tribal casinos around the nation," Elizabeth Bunn, secretary-treasurer of the UAW in Detroit, told the Associated Press. The tribe plans to challenge the election, saying the NLRB lacks jurisdiction at the casino. Get the Story:
