The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is fighting the National Labor Relations Board's assertion of jurisdiction at the Foxwoods Resort Casino.
The tribe says the NLRB can't enforce federal labor laws on the reservation. The tribe has its own laws that apply to unions at the casino.
The appeal was filed Wednesday. It will go to the NLRB in Washington, D.C., which overturned 30 years of precedent and said tribes can be subject to federal labor law on a case-by-case basis.
The NLRB used the precedent to authorize a union vote at Foxwoods. The United Auto Workers wants to organize about 3,000 dealers.
