An administrative law judge in Washington held a hearing into the Nooksack Tribe's application for a liquor license at its new casino.
The tribe wants a license for the Northwood Crossing Casino, which opens later this month. The Washington State Liquor Control Board approved the liquor license but Whatcom County went to court to oppose it.
County officials say they are concerned about drunk drivers and safety. The county sheriff has only one deputy to patrol the area that includes the reservation.
The hearing started Monday and ended on Tuesday. The administrative law judge will determine whether the board acted properly in approving the license. The final decision will be up to the board.
