The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut might allow a labor union at its Foxwoods Resort Casino but under tribal -- not federal -- law.
The tribe's lawyer said the United Auto Workers union has a right to organize under tribal law.
But the union wants the National Labor Relations Board to oversee an election.
The NLRB has asserted jurisdiction in the dispute, citing a recent case involving a California tribe and its casino.
The tribe could appeal but hasn't made a decision.
The UAW wants to organize about 3,000 card dealers at the casino.
