A majority of California voters support four gaming compacts that are the subject of an upcoming ballot initiative.

According to The Field Institute, 52 percent of voters back the agreements. Only 35 percent said they opposed. Another 13 percent were undecided.

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians, the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and the Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Indians signed the compacts with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R). The deals allow the tribe to install more slot machines and require them to share revenues with the state.

Labor unions, race tracks and some tribes oppose the deals. They say they are unfair to workers and would hurt other tribes with existing casinos.
