Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne is in New York City today but supporters of an off-reservation casino want him to make a detour to the Catskills.
Kempthorne opposed off-reservation gaming when he was governor of Idaho. He is now supposed to decide whether the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe can open a casino a few hundred miles away from its reservation.
The Catskills region is about 90 minutes north of New York City. Local leaders support the Mohawk casino as a way to revitalize the economy.
