After boasting of the purchase four years ago, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is putting its racetrack up for sale.
The tribe bought the Blue Ribbon Downs in September 2003 through an entity it formed in Texas. Tribal leaders said they did it secretly to avoid tipping off the Cherokee Nation, since the track is in Cherokee territory.
Thanks to a new state law that legalized Class III games, the Choctaws converted the track into a racino.
But the tribe said the facility wasn't meeting expectations.
The tribe bought the track for $3 million. The asking price was not disclosed but a spokesperson said tribe was willing to negotiate.
