Editorial: Cowlitz Tribe's end run on casino

"Clark County Commissioner Marc Boldt was partly right this week when he said "The county's interests are better served by having no" agreement with the Cowlitz Tribe for a casino near La Center than having a deal that the feds are responsible for enforcing.

Federal enforcement could possibly be better than no enforcement. But the county would be better off if it had no deal with the tribe - period.

Boldt, who is on record saying he would not have signed the 2004 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the tribe if he had been a commissioner then, and commissioners, Steve Stuart and Betty Sue Morris, should give up their effort to resurrect the discredited pact in Thurston County Superior Court. The MOU was the wrong thing to do in the first place and is still wrong."
