"I fail to appreciate the rationale behind the Argus-Courier’s continued campaign of opposition to the Rohnert Park casino. Every negative editorial features a laundry list of excellent generic anti-growth arguments opportunely directed against the casino project.

Problem is that when any other local development scheme comes up, the Argus-Courier routinely comes down heavily on the side of the growth-mongers. So I have to presume that there are other unstated real reasons for your anti-casino stance, most likely on moral grounds or just possibly out of sheer Ritchie Rich snobbery.

However, if you choose to play the morals card and wish to avoid the charge of hypocrisy, you are not allowed to cherry-pick your vices, no matter how trendy. This means that medical marijuana, for instance, must be chastised as every bit as much a ruse for legalizing narcotics as Indian gaming a ruse for legalizing slot machines."
