The New York State Liquor Authority delayed a decision on a liquor license for the Oneida Nation after hearing arguments on both sides on Wednesday.
Supporters cited the casino's positive economic impact on upstate New York. Opponents criticized the tribe for failing to pay property taxes and for allegedly violating numerous state laws.
But the authority said it needed more time to study the issue. The license will be considered at an October 3.
That's later than the tribe's PGA tournament, for which it wanted to serve liquor. A spokesperson indicated the tribe might still be able to serve alcohol by using a caterer.
