A Michigan House committee approved a bill to ratify a Class III gaming compact for the Match-e-be-nash-she-wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians, also known as the Gun Lake Band.
Chairman D.K. Sprague said his tribe was the only one in Michigan without a compact. "We are not asking for any more or any less than what every other tribe has," he said at a hearing yesterday, Booth Newspapers reported.
The tribe will share revenues from its proposed casino. Sprague said the facility will generate 1,800 jobs.
Besides the compact, the tribe is still waiting on final approval to have its land placed in trust. A federal judge has backed the tribe but gaming opponents are appealing.
