The Catawba Nation of South Carolina is being asked to finance an off-reservation gaming project near tourist-friendly Myrtle Beach.
The tribe's current leadership agreed to negotiate with the developers of the Carolina Entertainment Complex. The $500 million project calls for a casino, upscale RV park, a water park, festival space, a hotel and equestrian facilities
But the leadership may change when the tribe goes to vote this weekend. And the tribe previously pursued a high-stakes bingo parlor elsewhere in the state.
