The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island is seeking a Congressional hearing into its gaming rights.
The tribe is subject to a land claims settlement act that makes its reservation fall under state laws.
But a federal court later said the tribe could open a casino under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
After the victory, the late Sen. John Chafee (R) inserted a rider that bars the tribe from opening casinos under IGRA. The tribe is now hoping to convince members of Congress to repeal the rider so a gaming facility can be opened on the reservation.
The tribe has gone through the state process to open a casino off the reservation but voters have rejected the idea twice.
