"The influence of the Indian tribes in this area has reached a whole new level.

The fact that the state Legislature approved the expansion of gaming for a handful of tribes is huge for the valley. It's the first time the Coachella Valley has had such a large showing in Sacramento when it comes to tribal agreements.

The signing of Memoranda of Agreements and subsequent passage by the legislature of Indian gaming compacts and agreements puts money on the fast track into California's pockets, which will create jobs and increase public services and tourism.

The pact between the state and four tribal governments, including the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, delivers $300 million to balance the state's 2007-2008 fiscal budget.

What's more, $22 billion in revenue from the gaming deals that will turn casinos into mega casinos will flow into state coffers until 2030.

Here in the desert, we all stand to benefit from a new casino, more than 2,000 new jobs, and better collection of child and spousal support for single-parent families, among others.

Local businesses will benefit from more than $200 million in additional tribal purchases. Cities and charities stand to gain much from the tribes' generosity. The possibilities keep growing."
