The Kickapoo Tribe of Texas has won preliminary approval from the Interior Department to offer Class III games.
The tribe asked DOI to step in because the state refuses to negotiate a Class III compact. The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act authorizes federal intervention.
The tribe will be allowed to offer table games like blackjack, dice games and parimutuel betting. Final details have to be worked out.
The state has sued DOI over the scope of the rules.
