Some business owners in Jackson County say they support the off-reservation casino proposed by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
Brad Orrison, owner of the Shed , says the casino will bring more customers to his BBQ restaurant. "More traffic count, more tourists, and more things to do. When you are in business, that is the American Dream," he told WLOX-TV.
Travis Bass, an assistant manager at the REX electronics and appliance store, said the casino will benefit the entire county. "I would vote for it," he said.
The tribe owns 100 acres in Ocean Springs, more than 200 miles from the reservation. Chief Phillip Martin said he won't move forward unless the county supports the project. A non-binding referendum is set for November.
