Religious groups are holding a prayer rally on Sunday to oppose the off-reservation casino sought by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
Jackson County United for Families says approval of the Choctaw casino will lead to other casinos. "We want to pray (the casino) out of the area," Rev. Carl King told The Mississippi Press.
The rally takes place at the Crossroads Church, which is located near the proposed casino site. The tribe owns 100 acres that it wants to use for a $375 million facility..
The tribe filed a land-into-trust and gaming application with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. If approved by the agency, the state governor would have final say over the project.
