The Maine Legislature’s Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee voted 11-1 on Wednesday to authorize slot machines for the Penobscot Nation.
The tribe wants to operate up to 400 slot machines at its bingo hall. Officials say they need to compete with other gaming facilities in the state.
The committee passed the bill with an amendment to increase the state's take of slot machines.
