"A recent article reports that the Seminole Indian tribe purchased Hard Rock International for $965 million. This article reports that the tribe pays each member $42,000 per year from its casino profits. It states, “They govern themselves and pay for health services, education, housing and public safety with a combination of tribal money and federal assistance.”
Federal assistance? This tribe pays each of its 3,300 members $42,000 per year, still pays almost a billion dollars to buy Hard Rock and it needs federal assistance?
I am getting tired of hearing “I'm (insert your choice of race or ethnic groups) and we have been discriminated against so we deserve to be supported by the taxpayers.” All of these people, at least those in this region, have the same opportunities for education and employment as did I and my children and my grandchildren. That being the case, they have the same responsibility to take advantage of the education, get a job and support themselves and their families."
