The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians won't build an off-reservation casino if Jackson County voters reject it, Chief Phillip Martin said.
Martin said the tribe looked forward to an upcoming vote on the casino. The county scheduled a non-binding referendum this November.
The tribe owns 100 acres in Ocean Springs, more than 200 miles from the reservation. The tribe operates a printing press in the city on 40 acres that is already in trust.
The tribe wants to have the entire site placed in trust for gaming purposes. The land is near a major interstate.
