Shingle Springs Band sued by former partner

The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians has been sued for breach of contract by its former gaming partner.

The tribe was working with Sharp Image Gaming Inc. to open a casino in the late 1990s. An attorney said the firm financed construction of a 20,000-square-foot facility that was never built due to uncertainties, at the time, over Indian gaming in the state.

The tribe has since partnered with Lakes Entertainment Inc to build a 85,000-square-foot casino. But Sharp claims the tribe owes $14 million in advances, plus a share of future gaming revenues.
