The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma is preparing to reopen a casino in downtown Kansas City, Kansas.
The tribe owns a small piece of land in the city. It is held in trust but the National Indian Gaming Commission said it couldn't be used for a casino.
That prompted the state to raid the facility and seize more than $1 million in tribal cash and equipment. The tribe went to court and won a ruling against the state.
The tribe also took the NIGC to court and won. The judge struck down the agency's ruling on the Indian land status of the casino site.
The case is now before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. The tribe is preparing to re-establish Class II gaming once the decision comes down.
