The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation of Kansas met with DeKalb County last week to make its case for a casino in Illinois.
The tribe owns 128 acres in the county The tribe wants to negotiate a deal for a Class II gaming facility, along with a governmental center.
One big issue is whether the land qualifies for gaming. The tribe cites a letter from the Interior Department which stated a "credible" claim to a 1,200-acre reservation that was set aside for a Potawatomi chief back in the 1800s.
During and after the meeting, some county board members said they were inclined to negotiate with the tribe in order to protect the county's interests.
