An anti-gaming group in Michigan wants the Bureau of Indian Affairs to put its land-into-trust decision for the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians, also known as the Gun Lake Tribe.
Michigan Gambling Opposition, or MichGO, has been trying to stop the tribe from acquiring a 146-acre initial reservation. But a judge in Washington, D.C., threw out the group's objections last week.
MichGO plans to take the case to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. The group wants the court to put a stay on the BIA's land acquisition pending the appeal.
The BIA has indicated it would take the land into trust on March 5.
