The Spokane Tribe of Washington is trying to convince lawmakers to approve a compact that would authorize up to 4,700 slot machines, the most for any tribe in the state.
The tribe also wants to offer cash-fed machines, one-button machines and high-stakes betting. No other tribe has those options.
The provisions have lawmakers from both parties worried that the tribe is getting too much out of the deal. They say the tribe has been operating slot machines without a compact for years.
The compact, however, does not authorize an off-reservation casino, an idea that came up during prior compact negotiations.
