The Cowlitz Tribe of Washington expects to wait at least one more year, if not two, to receive final approval for its casino.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is still reviewing the tribe's land-into-trust application for 152 acres in Clark County. The petition qualifies for the newly recognized tribe exception in Section 20 of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
An answer from the BIA will probably come in early 2008, a tribal attorney said. But a lawsuit could drag the process out another year.
Nearly every single gaming land acquisition has been challenged. But the BIA has won every case so far.
