"The small yet vocal group that criticizes the proposed gaming compact between the Spokane Tribe and the state ignores the benefits promised by the compact while leveling false allegations against the tribe. We appreciate the opportunity to set the record straight.

The Spokane Tribe and the state, under the leadership of Gov. Chris Gregoire, have looked beyond 15 years of contentious litigation and negotiated a proposed gaming compact.

The proposed compact sets limits for the size and scope of gaming for the Spokane Tribe. It integrates the tribe’s gaming operations within a comprehensive tribal, state and federal regulatory structure.

Unlike revenues from non-Indian gaming (which go to owners’ personal accounts), revenues derived from the proposed compact would provide essential governmental services for tribal members such as health care, education and housing. The proposed compact also will allow for top-rate entertainment venues that will promote tourism in Eastern Washington, creating much needed employment and business opportunities."
