Tigua Tribe hopes to ressurect economy with casino

The Tigua Tribe of Texas hopes to revitalize the local economy by reopening its once-successful casino.

The Speaking Rock Casino employed more than 1,000 people and had an impact of nearly $900 million a year. But that ended in 2002 when the state went to court to shut down the facility.

The tribe has cut back services as a result of losing a key source of revenue. Governor Arturo Senclair also says local businesses are hurting.

A state lawmaker is introducing a bill that would legalize the casino. It will be considered next year.
