Labor unions, racetracks fight gaming compacts

Labor unions and racetracks are teaming up for the first time to host a lobbying conference on Indian gaming.

The unions and racetracks hope to convince lawmakers to oppose five compacts that were recently signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R). The unions want to be able to organize at casinos while the tracks are worried about their revenues.

The conference is aimed at newly elected lawmakers. It takes place at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad.
