Meskwaki Tribe could see competition on casino

The Meskwaki Tribe of Iowa could see some competition if the city of Tama gets to open a casino.

City leaders say a casino will help downtown revitalization efforts. Voters have approved the idea but it's still up to the state Racing and Gaming Commission to make a final decision.

Tribal officials wouldn't comment on the proposal. But the casino has already seen revenues drop due to the opening of other casinos in Iowa, according to KWWL.

Tama Mayor Chris Bearden says the region can support two casinos.
