The state of California is challenging the Indian lands determination for the Ione Band of Miwok Indians.
The Ione Band is considered a "restored" tribe. That means land taken into trust after 1988 can be used for gaming under Section 20 of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
The state disputes the Interior Department's treatment of the tribe as restored. Amador County also disputed the determination but was rejected by the Interior Board of Indian Appeals.
Documents on the tribe can be found at http://www.co.amador.ca.us./eirs/plymouth/index.cfm.
