Navajo Nation Council approves gaming deal

The Navajo Nation Council voted 61-1 to approve an agreement to share gaming revenues with the Hogback Chapter in New Mexico.

The agreement calls for the Navajo Nation to receive 90 percent of gaming revenues and the chapter to receive 10 percent during the first five years. The split changes to 95 to 5 after the fifth year.

Hogback is located near Shiprock, New Mexico. Delegate Ervin Keeswood cited studies that show a casino in the area could bring in $40 million in revenues.
