The Narragansett Tribe and Harrah’s Entertainment have gone negative as they try to convince Rhode Island voters to approve their casino proposal.
Polls show that more voters oppose the casino than support it. So Harrah's and the tribe have attacked the people who oppose it.
"Typically, if you’re behind, this is the strategy you need to use," Darrell M. West, a political science professor at Brown University, told The Providence Journal.
The latest attack involved an anti-casino group called Save Our State. The group is financially supported by a gaming developer who receives revenues from a racino in Rhode Island and from the Mohegan Tribe's casino in Connecticut.
