Editorial: Miss Choctaw casino unfair to Gulf Coast

$stalker "The four re-opened Gulf Coast casinos posted a record $106.6 million in gaming revenue for September. This is the highest month ever, and remember, before Katrina there were 12 coast casinos generating revenue, not just four.

Gambling across the entire state, excluding the regulation immune Choctaw operation, produced some $241 million in gaming tax receipts for September. (We don't know how much the Choctaws raked in, but we do know they paid no taxes.)

It is no wonder the Choctaws want to build a casino off their reservation near the coast. Not only will they potentially have millions of dollars coming in, they will not have to pay taxes like their competitors. This is not fair and should not be allowed.

We have yet to see any evidence that any of the casinos, free-market or Indian, have done anything to help the state overall."
