Eastern Shawnee Tribe ignores opposition for now

Two Ohio communities have rejected the Eastern Shawnee Tribe's casino advances but the tribe isn't worried about the opposition for now.

The Canal Fulton City Council voted this week to drop talks with the tribe. The mayor cited a majority of residents who were opposed to the casino.

The move followed a vote in another town that told the tribe to go away. But a consultant said the tribe is focused on its land claim right now, not its public relations.

The tribe filed a lawsuit claiming land and other rights in Ohio. The tribe says it will settle for gaming.
