The Republican and Democratic candidates for New York governor oppose gaming rights for out-of-state tribes.
The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma wants to build a casino somewhere in the state. The tribe's ancestors lived in New York before being forced to leave by the federal government.
Democrat Eliot Spitzer, the state attorney general, and Republican John Faso both say they won't allow out-of-state tribes to reclaim gaming rights. The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe would need the state governor's approval to open a casino.
Spitzer and Faso also oppose gaming for the Shinnecock Nation, a state-recognized tribe.
