Opposition to Miss. Choctaw casino mounts

$stalker Opponents of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians aren't happy with the way the tribe is handling its proposed off-reservation casino.

Two groups say they weren't notified early enough of an October 18 public hearing on the casino. The Jackson County supervisor is also upset and says Chief Phillip Martin hasn't talked to him since May.

The tribe owns 100 acres in Ocean Springs, more than 200 miles from the reservation. The site is located off a major interstate.

The tribe applied to have the land place in trust for gaming purposes. Some of the land is already in trust, but can't be used for a casino without going through the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
