Narragansett chief debates casino in Rhode Island

Matthew Thomas, the chief sachem of the Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island, touts the benefits of gaming in a debate being televised this weekend.

Thomas said the tribe's proposed casino will create jobs and generate revenue for the state. The tribe's partner is Harrah's Entertainment.

On the opposite side of the debate was former governor Lincoln C. Almond. He says the casino will hurt two existing gaming facilities in the state.

The tribe and Harrah's are asking state voters to amend the constitution to authorize the casino. The issue is on the November ballot.
