Montana tribe renegotiates Class III compact

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and the state of Montana are negotiating a new Class III compact.

The existing compact expires November 30. An agreement hasn't been reached but a tribal spokesperson was optimistic on the outcome.

Tribal leaders want more jurisdiction over gaming that occurs on the Flathead Reservation. They also want to increase the number of machines and the maximum bets and payouts.

Individuals who own gaming facilities on the reservation are closely watching the talks.
