Agua Caliente Band close to new deal with state

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians is close to a new gaming compact with the state of California.

The tribe has been in talks since chairman Richard Milanovich met Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) for the first time in May. Both sides say the discussion has been positive.

A deal is expected to be announced soon in order to finalize it before the end of the state legislative session on August 31.

The Schwarzenegger is also negotiating with the Morongo Band of Mission Indians. The two tribes operate some of the biggest casinos in the state but resisted prior attempts to change their compacts.
