Backers and supporters of an off-reservation casino in Wisconsin have donated tens of thousands of dollars to Gov. Jim Doyle (D).
Dennis Troha, the developer for the Menominee Nation's proposed casino, organized a fundraiser for Doyle on February 2. The $135,000 in donations came from executives of the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut, the tribe financing the casino; from other executives of a racetrack that is backing the casino; and from executives of construction firms in the area.
Mohegan interests have given Doyle a total of $26,000 since last year.
The Menominee casino needs federal approval and Doyle's concurrence.
